News among young people

It seems to me that most of my peers are getting news information from various online sources, including CNN, Yahoo, and the New York Times. However, now that reading the news and staying informed has become an assignment most people are able to be honest about how little they read the news before this class, but it seems that through this assignment we are beginning to understand the necessity of reading the news regularly, because now that we are getting closer to be adults in society and being a serious people that entails knowing what is going on in the world around us. Everyone has their favorite websites and other sources through which they keep up to date on current events but the use of the Internet is common throughout this information gathering process done by students. On the Internet, our younger generation uses social media and networking sites and word of mouth to be informed about large issues and news that the people around us care about. However, using social media sites limit getting really credible and unbiased information but has become a source for personal news rather than international events. Using the Internet and other technology to gather information also furthers our proficiency with computers and that gives us a unique advantage in the work force. This ability to stay current on what is going on around the world allows students to stay more informed about the inequalities around the globe and within our own community. By being informed we are one step closer to being able to take action against something that triggers a negative emotional response within an individual.
